Mate In 2 Chess Puzzles

The following mate in 2 chess puzzles are tailored for the intermediate chess player. All chess players want to improve their game and are always on the lookout for winning chess strategies.

Chess puzzles should be part of any player’s overall plan to improve their game. There are many types, from mate in 1, to mate in 2 and beyond, as well as chess puzzles where the player is not solving for mate, but instead is trying to find the winning move. This normally means finding the move that wins material or changes the position so dramatically, that it also changes the outcome.

Chess puzzles are valuable because they help the chess player recognize (and hopefully remember) patterns that they can apply to the games that they'll be playing.

Other ways to improve your chess tactics and playing ability is working on chess openings and chess endgames. If it’s in your budget, consider taking chess lessons. If you get the right instructor for you, the instant feedback on your games that is tailored directly to you can really help. But remember, nothing beats practice!

“A knowledge of combination is the foundation of position play.” Réti
Richard Réti (1889 - 1929) was one of the top players in the world during the 1910s and 1920s. He was also a chess author and composer of endgame studies.

“The ability to steer clear of apparently advantageous continuations in order to find the single move which really maintains the pressure, is one the hall-marks of a great master.” Fred Reinfeld
Fred Reinfeld (January 27, 1910 – May 29, 1964) was an American chess master and a prolific writer of numerous chess books. He wrote or co-wrote over 100 books, mostly on chess, especially chess geared towards the novice player.

Reinfeld was also a very strong chess player. He was ranked sixth in the United States on the first rating list issued by the United States Chess Federation in 1950. He won the New York State Championship as well as the Marshall Chess Club and Manhattan Chess Club championships.

This a cute one that again deals with a queen sacrifice. White plays Qxe4 and after black plays Nxe4, checkmate follows with white playing Bxf7.
